Yesterday the Idaho Legislature concluded its 2017 business with "sine die" before noon. Today I am enjoying some quiet and the sound of rain, while catching up on all the other stuff that accumulates during the session. Thank you to all the legislative staff and pages who put up with us and make things happen. Despite the tumult, which has its own unique character each legislative session, we enjoyed some good bipartisan problem solving including funding for roads and the teacher career ladder, civil asset forfeiture and criminal justice reform, grocery tax repeal which hopefully the Governor will allow to become law, and no new taxes. As I left the capitol headed for home, I noticed the star spangled banner waving in the breeze on top of one of our downtown buildings. It was a solemn and precious reminder of the many sacrifices for freedom which support each legislative session.
